Greenwood Labs

2022 — 23

Greenwood Labs was an early-stage DeFi company. Over about a year and a half I owned product design and frontend engineering on four products. A vault protocol interface, a collaborative investment platform, an options investment wizard, and a Chrome extension that answered questions about DeFi protocols in context. Most of them didn't ship.

One was the collaborative investment platform, where a group pools capital into a single position. Whoever creates the vault names it, but the transactions they plan to run are the actual strategy, and that's what someone deciding whether to contribute needs to see. So I put them in front of contributors: the exact function names and amounts, read off the vault contract, before anyone committed capital. Its first pool raised $50,000 across multiple contributors.

Another was a vault built on a structured options product, a Wall Street instrument ported to DeFi. I built a payoff diagram into the flow, mostly for myself. I couldn't tell from the spec what a position was worth at any given price, and figured anyone depositing would have the same problem. It redraws as you change your inputs, and hovering anywhere along the curve tells you what your position is worth at that price. You can find your own worst case before you deposit.

Greenwood was a crash course in crypto, in frontend, and in product thinking. A lot of work in a short time, most of it going nowhere. That's startups, right?
